Redemption of the Templar. by Ash Jetson is the precursor and prologue to his short fantasy story Stigmata of the Wanderer., one of the 3 works in his first book, The Alchemical Trinity. The first story was about a knight who has never been hurt in battle, and what he learns when he finally gets hurt about what he has truly done to others and what his true purpose is as a warrior. This novel goes to a time before the events of Stigmata of the Wanderer. and recollects the main character's journeys with the Knights Templar. Set in an alternate history, where the Order of the Knights Templar are tasked with work akin to the Jesuits during the Crusades, and are sent out to convert non-believers to Christianity. The story is a treatise on Abrahamic religion and their similarities. The main character, Dominus Azarus, has 3 key encounters with 3 different characters in the book, one Jewish, one Atheist, and one Muslim, and the things he is told in defense of their beliefs when in the face of conversion sends the protagonist on a quest of inner reflection and redemption. Still a fantasy novel, it is also set in a time of magic and witchcraft, and the question of and philosophy of the use of magic is a concept in the story. The final idea in the story is that of alchemy. The Knights Templar are historically known to have learned alchemy from the Sufis when encountering them during the inquisition of Christianity, and when Dominus meets the Muslim at the climax of the story, what he learns from him changes him in an indescribable way. A piece that transcends the original story of Stigmata of the Wanderer. and becomes a new work fully based on the past of the protagonist, what lead him to where he was by that story, and the things he learned from the Knights Templar and his time converting others about what it means to truly be a Christian and follow God, and what it means to believe.
